PEI (Polyetherimide) - High-Performance Machining Plastic

PEI (Polyetherimide), commercially known as ULTEM, is an amorphous, high-performance thermoplastic renowned for its exceptional balance of thermal stability, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance. It is an ideal metal replacement in demanding applications across aerospace, automotive, electronics, and medical industries.

● Excellent Thermal Performance: High glass transition temperature of 217°C. It can withstand continuous service temperatures up to 170°C and short-term exposure up to 200°C without deforming.

● Outstanding Mechanical Strength: It possesses high tensile strength (≥100 MPa), stiffness (flexural modulus ≥3.0 GPa), and rigidity, even at elevated temperatures. It also offers high creep resistance and torsional strength.

● Inherent Flame Retardancy: PEI is naturally flame retardant without additives, achieving a UL94 V-0 rating and a high oxygen index of 47%.

● High Electrical Insulation: It provides stable dielectric properties over a wide range of frequencies and temperatures, making it excellent for electrical applications.

● Superb Chemical & Hydrolysis Resistance: PEI resists a wide range of chemicals, including alcohols, hydrocarbons, and aqueous solutions. It also has low water absorption, ensuring excellent dimensional stability in humid environments.

● Good Processability: PEI can be efficiently machined and is suitable for injection molding and extrusion. Its high melt fluency allows it to be formed into almost any shape.
